Calpe is the town where I live myself, so when I talk about it, it always comes from personal experience. It is one of those places that slowly grows on you. At first you notice the sea, the sunshine and the famous rock. But after living here a while, you start to appreciate the small everyday things — the local bakeries, the morning walks along the beach, the friendly faces you see again and again.
When you arrive in Calpe, the first thing that catches your eye is the impressive Peñón de Ifach rising out of the Mediterranean. This huge rock has become the symbol of the town. It stands more than 330 meters above the sea and is now a protected natural park. Many visitors climb it for the incredible view across the Costa Blanca coastline. Even after seeing it many times, it still feels special every time the light changes around it.
Calpe started as a small fishing village, and you can still feel that history near the harbour where fishing boats return in the afternoon and restaurants serve fresh seafood. Over the years the town has grown into an international place where people from many European countries now live. Yet it has kept its relaxed Spanish character, which is something many residents truly value.
Calpe is also one of the most attractive places for people looking to buy property on the Costa Blanca. Many international buyers choose Calpe, Spain, because of its beaches, Mediterranean lifestyle and excellent real estate opportunities. The town offers a mix of traditional Spanish villas, modern sea-view apartments and smaller holiday homes, making it accessible for different budgets.
Life here naturally revolves around the sea. The town has two large sandy beaches, Playa Arenal-Bol and Playa de la Fossa. Both are wide, clean and perfect for long walks along the Mediterranean. The promenades are full of cafés, restaurants and small local shops where people sit, talk and enjoy the view. In the evenings the atmosphere becomes even nicer when the lights come on and families gather for dinner by the sea.
One of my favourite little places in Calpe is the colourful Calle Puchalt in the historic centre. The stairs are painted in the red and yellow colours of the Spanish flag and have become one of the most photographed corners of the town. But the real charm of the old town is the quiet streets, traditional houses and small squares where you can sit down and enjoy a coffee or a glass of wine.
Another fun way to discover Calpe is the small tourist train that drives around the town, passing the beaches, marina and viewpoints. It is a relaxed way to explore the area, and something many visitors enjoy. Even pet owners appreciate it, because depending on the size, dogs can often join the ride.
Calpe is also a very comfortable place for people with pets. There are two dog parks where dogs can run and play freely, and even a dog-friendly beach area at Cala Les Urques where they are allowed to swim.
Healthcare is another important part of daily life here. The town has both public and private medical services. The modern HCB Calpe International Hospital provides international medical care and multilingual doctors. Residents can also access the Spanish healthcare system once they receive their SIP health card, which allows them to visit local health centres and hospitals. When our buyers move here, we always help them register and obtain their SIP card so everything runs smoothly.
Calpe is also a place where people enjoy staying active. Cycling is incredibly popular here. During winter you will often see professional cycling teams training on the mountain roads around town because the climate is perfect and the scenery is beautiful.
Golf lovers are also lucky because just a short drive away you will find Ifach Golf Club, a charming Mediterranean golf course located between Calpe and Moraira. It is smaller than some large resorts but very enjoyable, surrounded by nature and sea views.
Another sport that has become part of everyday life in Spain is padel. Local clubs are always busy with people meeting friends, playing matches and socialising afterwards. It is one of the easiest ways to meet people and become part of the local community.

The property market in Calpe has grown steadily because more and more international buyers are discovering the area. Today the average property price is around €3,300 per square meter, although this can vary depending on location and sea views. Some buyers look for modern apartments close to the beach, while others prefer traditional Mediterranean villas in quiet residential areas.
What makes Calpe special for me personally is that it still feels like a real town rather than a large resort. You recognise people, shop owners greet you and life feels relaxed and welcoming.
As a buyer-focused property agency, we work exclusively for buyers and protect their interests during the property purchase process. We help people find homes that fit their budget and lifestyle, guide them through the Spanish buying process and assist with practical things like healthcare registration and settling into the area.
Since Calpe is the town where I live myself, I can honestly recommend it. It is a place with a Spanish soul, beautiful nature and a Mediterranean way of life that many people dream about.
