Why Altea Is One of Costa Blanca’s Most Loved Towns

Moin moin, hola everyone 🌞
Today I decided to write about the charming bohemian town of Altea, right here on our beautiful Costa Blanca.

Altea was my very first home when I moved to Spain five years ago. I lived up in the hills, in Altea Hills, and honestly… what a view. Every single day felt special. Most mornings I went down with my dog to the luxury marina Port Mascarat, ordered a coffee, opened my laptop, and worked from the bistro restaurant Bay Club.

Sea in front of me, sun on my face, calm energy everywhere. That was the moment I truly felt that I had arrived.

What made me completely fall in love with Altea is the old town. Small, narrow Spanish streets, white houses, a strong Mediterranean feeling, friendly local people, and so many handmade and original local shops. Walking through the old town always leads you up to the heart of Altea, the beautiful church Nuestra Señora del Consuelo with its iconic blue dome. From there, the views over the sea are simply breathtaking. It’s also very Instagram-friendly. People come here to enjoy a drink, take photos, taste local food, and just feel the atmosphere.

One of my favorite daily rituals was walking along the beach promenade. For me it felt magical, and my dog enjoyed it even more. You can walk directly next to the water all the way to Albir. It took us around 45 minutes, and I never got tired of it.

What I truly admire about Altea is that it has protected its character. There are no massive high apartment blocks like in many coastal towns. Altea has kept its soul. You’ll find different areas, each with its own lifestyle. Altea la Vella is calm and traditional, surrounded by nature. Altea Hills offers privacy, views, and luxury living. And the town center is lively, authentic, and full of life.

Another highlight is the weekly market, held every Tuesday morning. Fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers, local products, and an atmosphere that brings you back to old times, when people knew their neighbors and stopped to talk. It’s one of my favorite parts of Altea.

Altea also has a beautiful port where you can keep your own boat or rent one for a sunny day at sea with your loved ones. As a former fishing town, Altea is known for its traditional seafood restaurants, and fresh fish is still part of everyday life here.

If you’re active, Altea offers everything: diving, padel, tennis, hiking, and cycling. It’s also a very artistic town, known for its galleries and creative spirit. One big reason for this is the Faculty of Fine Arts UMH Altea, which attracts artists and students from all over Spain and abroad.

Altea is also becoming a reference point for wellness and healthy living. A perfect example is ZEM Wellness Clinic Altea, located in Altea Hills.

ZEM is one of the most advanced health and wellness clinics in Europe, combining medical expertise, preventive health programs, nutrition, detox, fitness, and holistic treatments. Many people come here from all over the world to reset their body and mind while enjoying nature, silence, and sea views. It fits perfectly into Altea’s calm, conscious Mediterranean lifestyle.

Altea continues to grow in a healthy, modern way. New restaurants and wellness concepts are opening while the town keeps its relaxed rhythm. One place that really reflects this lifestyle is Verde.

Verde is a small bio and matcha-focused spot offering organic, plant-based food, fresh juices, smoothies, and quality matcha. A calm place where locals meet after yoga, work on their laptops, or simply enjoy clean food made with care. It perfectly represents Altea’s growing wellness and conscious lifestyle.

Altea is a place for people who want to live slower, healthier, and closer to nature, without giving up culture, quality, and beauty.
